Residents of Nketepa a farming Community in Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region have served notice to embark on a demonstration against the deteriorating road and rampant Highway robbery.
According to the angry residents, the road to the community has become very deplorable aiding highway robbers to torment commuters particularly traders who come to the community to buy farm produce.
On Saturday, September 26, 2020, residents pursued and arrested one of the four highway robbers who attacked traders on the Nketepa Road.
The robbers numbering four (4) attacked at gunpoint four vehicles transporting traders at Kweklu community along the Nketepa road at about 7:00am. They succeeded taken mobile phones and monies from their victims.
Assembly Member for Nketepa, Yaw Bossu narrated that youth in the area mobilized and chased the armed robbers who fled into the bush and after an hour of the hot chase, one was arrested.
The suspect who mentioned his name as Abubakar Sadiq said they were four in number.
He has since been handed over to the Police after being mishandled by the mob.
Kwahu South, Kwahu Afram Plains North, and South districts are struggling to deal with the decades-old highway robbery menace in the area.
An operation by SWAT Police deployment in February this year led to the arrest of five of the suspects however their accomplices continue to terrorize commuters particular during market days.
