Head of the Department of General Studies at Heritage University College, Dr Ebenezer Ayesu who is also a native of Akuapem Adawso in the Eastern region has made some interesting revelations about the fact that Ghana’s First President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah had a girlfriend in the community whilst late former head of state Ignatius Kutu Acheampong had twins with a lady in the community.
However, he regrets that due to the protracted Chieftaincy disputes in the community, the traditional rulers could not take advantage to lobby the two heads of state to develop the Adawso Community.
He said Adawso has since been neglected by governments despite being an agriculture hub in Akuapem North municipality leading to retarded growth.
Dr Ayesu said this during a fundraising ceremony to cut sod for the commencement of the construction of the newly Adawso Chief Palace.
The Chief of Adawso, Nana Sakyi Amoako admonished politicians to honour their promises to the people.
He said Adawso is a major food basket in the Akuapem North municipality which supplies foodstuffs to Koforidua and many towns however roads connecting the communities are in a deplorable state. He threatened to lead a demonstration.
The people of Adawso are crying to me about developmental challenges in the community. The road to Adawso which even generated huge revenue for the assembly is in a bad state, the Mangoase road is deplorable. Adawso has suffered for too long. We help Okuapeman to get food and revenue but we have been relegated. If care is not taken one day we will embark on a demonstration. We don’t want to demonstrate but you are pushing us to embark on demonstration” they said .
Hon. Barimah Asiedu Larbi who is Akuapem North Municipal Chief Executive admitted the challenges confronting the Adawso township and promised that the assembly has put measures in place to soon begin the construction of some inner roads and the Adawso market as well as other social needs of the people.
He explained that the decision by the Chiefs to construct a new palace is a step in the right direction since the chiefs will need a proper structure to stay in before they can plan and make good decisions that will inure to the development of the Adawso community hence the MP and the assembly’s commitment to supporting the construction of the palace.
Meanwhile, Sammy Awuku donated Ghc 50,000, and the MP Hon. Ama Dokua donated Ghc 30,000 whilst the Akuapem North Municipal Assembly also donated Ghc 20,000 for the construction of the chief palace at Adawso.
The Chairman of Adawso Development Committee and who doubles as the Adawso district pastor of the Church of Pentecost Pastor Isaac Ayisi Kumi revealed that as part of the church of Pentecost vision 2023 propounded by the chairman of the Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye to possess nations, the Adawso district of the church decided to partner with the chiefs of the community to bring development in the Adawso Community.
He said the Church of Pentecost believes that the church and Christians can change things in societies and one of the ways is for the church to draw closer to the chieftaincy institutions in Ghana.
