The Nkosuohene of Kwamoso in the Akwapim North Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region, Rev Nana Fianko Bekoe has revealed that Kwamoso state farms are not a stool land as claimed by the Head of Asona Mensah stool, Akrahene of Akwapim, and Chief of Kwamoso, Nana Kwame Donkor Kissiedu II.
He indicated that the lands did not belong to any stool as is falsely being speculated in and around Kwamoso by some people.
According to Rev Fianko Bekoe, the Ghana government acquired the land from individual owners from Mamfe, Amanokrom, Akropong, and Abiriw and not the stool land of the Kwamoso Asona family.
He said, the 4739.15 acres of land was negotiated by the government in 1957/1962 and legally acquired by E. I 82 dated 30th July 1974.
The land was acquired under the Convention Peoples Party regime to develop the defunct Kwamoso Oil Palm Plantation and later 104 acres of the land were given out for some flood victims at Kwamoso to build new houses.
He said Akuapem has no stool land; therefore the Kwamoso lands are not stooled land and are therefore owned by individual families.
He added that negotiation for the acquisition of the land did not involve any chief since the land is not a stool land.
The state farms corporation/State Oil Palm Plantation has been in the occupation and use of the said land since 1962 to date.
Rev Nana Fianko Bekoe has already petitioned the government for the reversion of the land to the original landowners since is not being used for the purpose for which the land was acquired from individual owners by the government.
He has therefore urged the government to use the land for some of his flagship programs, such as one district one factory, planting for food and jobs, and others to benefit the people of Akuapem and the Nation as a whole.
He also advised the government to monitor the activities of Kwamoso chief, Nana Kwame Donkor Kissiedu II with regards to the land reversion to the rightful owners, since he intends to claim the land for Kwamoso Asona stool.
Speaking to Nana Kwame Donkor Kissiedu II, he said, the land is a stool land hence he will do everything possible to claim it from the government.
