Zongo chiefs in chieftaincy disputed Adoagyiri community in Eastern Region have renewed their allegiance to Akyem Abuakwa traditional council amidst chieftaincy between Akyem Abuakwa and Akyem Kotoku over traditional ownership of Adoagyiri community.
Due to the chieftaincy dispute in the community, procession by Adoagyiri Zongo community during Eid-ul-Fitr was blocked by the Police from paying homage to Barima Adu Korkor III ,a parallel chief enstooled by Akyem Abuakwa traditional council in the community.
According historic records, Adoagyiri Zongo chiefs have since the reign of Mamman Taylor in 1915 have at all material times showed allegiance to Ofori Panin stool hence during the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr every year, the zongo community pay homage to the Adoagyiri Chief.
In a meeting with Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin and his Elders in Ofori Panin Fie, Chief of Adoagyiri Zongo,Bashiru Salifu Mamman Taylor reaffirmed the continuation of the traditional allegiance to Akyem Abuakwa as ininherited.
Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin said historical evidence and documents clearly confirm that Adoagyiri is part of Akyem Abuakwa therefore, the traditional council will head to court for determination.
Okyenhene condemned the Nsawam Police for failing to recognize a legitimacy of Barima Adu Korkor III, chief enstooled in the community.
There has been escalating tension between Akyem Abuakwa and Akyem Kotoku traditional councils over traditional jurisdiction of Adoagyiri which has resulted in the enstoolment of two rival chiefs by both traditional councils.
Barima Adu Korkor III was enstooled on Saturday 19th August, 2023 by Akyem Abuakwa Traditional council.
However the opposing faction from Akyem Kotoku say Adoagyiri has legitimately gazetted chief for the past 15 years in the person of Okoanadwo Afutu Dompreh II debunking claim by Akyem Abuakwa traditional council that the incumbent chief is illegitimate since he was not been enstooled by Akyem Abuakwa traditional council.
The dispute has led to deadly attacks in the community .
The Ghana Police Service has since banned obtained prohibition order restraining both factions from undertaking public activities.
