The Suhum District Court in the Eastern Region has remanded into Police Custody 32-year-old Burkinabe driver, Baguian Seni, who was driving the articulated truck which crashed 14 passengers to death at the spot on the Kyekyewere section of the Accra to Kumasi Highways.
The Plea of the accused driver was not taken when put before the court Wednesday, September 16, 2020, pending further investigation.
He is expected to reappear before the court on September 22, 2020.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has initiated joint investigations into the fatal accident.
According to the Police report, the Tuesday accident occurred about 4:50am when the suspect driver yet to be identified in charge of a DAF Articulated truck with registration number 3339T1 03BF for the head and 11JL6112 BF for the trailer loaded with bags of flour from Accra towards Kumasi direction lost control of the steering wheel while descending a slope.
In the process crashed with a Kia bus with registration number GT 4997-20 driven by Abubarkar Fuseini, 40, who was coming from Kumasi direction. The Articulated truck further grazed the STC Scania Marcopolo bus with registration number GE 8131-16 driven by Edmund Kwaku Bonsu, 46, who was also following the Kia bus.
With the help of the National Ambulance, National Fire Service together with Divisional Police command, Suhum MTTD, Suhum District Patrol Team, and Teacher Mante Police, dozens of passengers who were injured were rushed to Suhum and Nsawam Government hospitals treatment.
The dead bodies have been sent to Suhum Government hospital mortuary for identification, preservation, and autopsy.
The Acting Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command Sargeant Francis Gomado, Investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause to aide in Prosecution.
