The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, has called for a stronger national push toward sustainability, fairness, and responsible business practices. He made the remarks on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the 9th Annual Sustainability and Social Investment (SSI) Awards Gala held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Speaking to industry leaders, development partners, and award winners, Dr. Pelpuo described the SSI Awards as a platform that captures “the conscience and innovative spirit of corporate Ghana.” He noted that this year’s theme “Sustainable Growth for All: Balancing Economic Progress, Social Equity, and Environmental Stewardship”, sits at the heart of the country’s development agenda.
Dr. Pelpuo stressed that Ghana’s future depends on growth that is inclusive and resilient, adding that sustainable progress is measured not by speed, but by how many people benefit. He pointed to examples from Asia where strong collaboration between government and the private sector accelerated national transformation.
Touching on environmental issues, the Minister described climate change as “the greatest economic opportunity of our generation.” He encouraged businesses to invest in green industries such as solar assembly and waste-to-energy technologies, and reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting private-sector-driven job creation in these emerging areas.
Dr. Pelpuo also took a moment to clarify a recent misquote by GHOne TV on unemployment, emphasizing that his actual message focused on the private sector’s vital role in national economic growth. He reiterated government’s commitment to creating the right environment for businesses to innovate, expand, and create jobs.
He applauded this year’s SSI Award recipients for embracing the “triple bottom line” of People, Planet, and Profit, and honored several organizations and individuals whose initiatives are advancing sustainability and social investment across the country.
The Minister concluded by calling for deeper cooperation among government, businesses, and civil society to build “a stable, dignified, and environmentally conscious future for every citizen.”
