The Deputy Minister responsible for Lands and Forestry, Benito Owusu-Bio has on Tuesday, 16th August, 2022 met with officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and some of the Ministry’s agencies that are involved in Land reclamation, to fashion out ways that will help them collaborate and harmonise their work to ensure value for money.
Hon. Benito said the meeting has become necessary due to the need to ensure that interventions related to forests, environment and natural resources management is intergrated and cordinated in a way that will bring about the overall development agenda in the sector.
He tasked officials at the meeting to learn from each other, get the best out of their projects and collaborate to ensure effective implementation.
“allow yourselves for information sharing, learn from each other and help reduce duplication of efforts and also tease out plans that will make this harmonisation agenda work.” He said
Mr. Kwabena Kokofu, the CEO of Environmental Protection Agency told all gathered that as the financier to all the projects, the World Bank requires that EPA and the Ministry collaborate and harmonise to avoid overlapping in work efforts.
The representing Agencies and project heads at the meeting include Forestry Commission, Minerals Commission, Ghana Landscape Restoration and Small Scale Mining Project, Forestry Investment Programme, National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Programme and other officials from the Ministry.
