On Wednesday, 4th January, 2023, Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abuu Jinapor led a team, including the Board Chairman of the Minerals Commission and members of the Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Committee, to inspect the progress of work on the reconstruction of the Appiatse community, which was razed down on 20th January, 2022, when a truck carrying explosives exploded in the community.
Apart from the gamut of measures put in place by Government after the incident, including the provision of emergency relief services and the review of the health and safety measures, Government, also, promised to rebuild the community into a modern, green community as a model for rural development. A masterplan for this new community was developed and construction of the community commenced earnestly last year.
Currently, 106 out of 124 housing units, consisting of two bedroom to seven bedroom housing units, are under construction, and are at various stages of completion.
There’s, also, under construction, a kindergarten, and a six-unit classroom block for a primary school.
The Department of Urban Roads has commenced construction of the roads in the township, and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency is in the process of connecting the entire community to portable water source.
Phase one of the project, which is the construction of the core community is on schedule, and it’s expected to be completed in time.
“The promise to reconstruct the Appiatse community remains absolute. And we will stop at nothing to give the people of Appiatse a better life. Let us continue to donate to the Appiatse Support Fund to expedite the completion of this modern, green community” the minister assured.
