Eastern Regional Representative of the Council of state Paa Kofi Ansong has been allegedly caught on tape saying, NPP executives in the Eastern Region will struggle to have resources to campaign in 2024 because the favorite of President Akufo Addo did not win the Regional Chairmanship position.
Kwadwo Boateng Agyemang who had the backing of the Presidency was defeated by Jeff Konadu for the Eastern regional chairman position on May 28, 2022, regional election was held.
But according to Paa Kofi Ansong, because Jeff Konadu did not show respect to President Akufo Addo and the Chief of staff to withdraw from the race, it will be very difficult for him to go to them for resources to support the campaign of the party.
This he said will affect the performance of even the Constituency executives which will cause them to lose reelection bids after their term of office.
“2016 when we were in opposition we contributed to holding award scheme. Myself, GBC’s Ampem Darko also contributed to support. In the region, some of us and Kissi, Prince among others contributed financially to support the party. In 2020, I don’t think we did the same because we are in power. I am imagining that with the many appointments made in the region because we have a cordial relationship with the President he listens to us and gives us resources”. The Council of state members is head-on leaked audio that captured a closed-door meeting held with some constituency executives a few days before the NPP Eastern regional election.
Paa Kofi Ansong continued that “Now you the new executives where are you going to get resources to work, people will accuse you of failure because the person who is supposed to lead you through the process cannot go the Chief of staff and the President. if you don’t have the resources how are you going to run? This is not somebody’s property. No single person can contribute to run a political party .so if you don’t have a friendly relationship with the presidency how is you going to operate in the next 2 and half years ahead”
The Council of State Member further said it will be difficult for the constituencies in the region to also get developmental projects such as roads because they failed to vote for the favorite of the President.
