A private legal practitioner, Kwame Owiredu Donkor has picked nomination forms to contest the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Primaries in the Akwatia Constituency of the Eastern Region.
Lawyer Donkor is currently Public Relations Officer for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Marketers Association and Akyem Kusi Electoral Area coordinator for the New Patriotic Party.
The seat is currently occupied by Mrs. Mercy Adu Gyamfi Bello, Popularly known as “Amasey” who won the Parliamentary seat in 2015 and defeated NDC’s Lawyer Mohammed Baba Jamel in 2016 Election with 21,433 votes against 15,905.
In 1992 Gilbert Kwasi Agyei was elected on the tick of the National Democratic Congress as Members of Parliament, in 1996 Alhaji Mohammed Erzuah Siam succeed as MP on the tick of the National Democratic Congress.
The seat, in the year 2000 to 2008 turned to Kinston Akomeng Kissi of New Patriotic Party, now Eastern Regional Chairman of NPP.
From 2008 to 2012, Mr. Kofi Asare won the seat for the New Patriotic Party with 17,900 votes against the National Democratic Congress candidate, Lawyer Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed who pulled 15, 860 votes.
