A staunch member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr Frank Aboagye Danyansah, has indicated the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) should clap for themselves after deceiving Ghanaians.
Speaking to Koforidua based Bryt fm, he said NPP lied to Ghanaians that they will never borrow money to govern the nation but currently Ghana retains first position as Africa’s highest borrower from IMF.
He added that, Ghanaians were hoping the NPP flagship programmes ie, Planting for food and jobs and 1D1F could save the economy and reduce borrowing but that never manifested after failure of these programmes led to more hardship for the country.
“You lied to Ghanaians you will never borrow, you see you have been exposed?” He questioned.
He added that the ruling government, NPP incompetence has reached its peak hence they must be kicked out, come 2024 general elections.
According to IMF report, the country’s loan outstanding to the Fund is 9.55% of Africa’s total of SDR 17.68 billion.
Importantly, Ghana had repaid SDR 8 million, equivalent to $10.55 million to the IMF.
The nation’s loan exposure to the Bretton Woods institution is classified as concessional lending with a low-interest financing.
