Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president and 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged party members to go past their personal grievances and concentrate on a shared goal of turning around the NPP in time for the general elections in 2028.
During the NPP’s current “Thank You Tour,” Dr. Bawumia spoke to party supporters in the Volta Region on Thursday, May 8. He underlined the importance of unity, tenacity, and grassroots involvement as crucial pillars of the party’s recovery.
“Let us all rise and rebuild together, for victory in 2028 is not a dream but a mission. We have the talent, the ideas and the resolve—now is the time to act,” Bawumia urged.
He acknowledged the party’s loss in the most recent polls, but he maintained that the setback must not become a roadblock in what seemed to be a moment of introspection and renewed resolve.
“We did not achieve the result we desired, but that is behind us now. What matters is how we rise from this and strengthen our party’s structures at every level,” he stated.
Regaining public trust and reestablishing a connection with the electorate will require a more robust grassroots presence, Dr. Bawumia emphasized.
“We must rebuild our grassroots presence. From regional executives down to polling-station agents, everyone has a role to play in restoring confidence among Ghanaians.”
In addition, he emphasized the Volta Region’s potential and urged the party to keep its promises and pay closer attention to the concerns of local residents.
“This region is ripe for transformation. By engaging sincerely with local concerns and delivering on our promises, we will earn the trust of communities here” he stated.
