John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has alleged that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) conspired with the Electoral Commission (EC) to sway the results of the general elections scheduled for December 7 in favor of the NPP.
Mahama alleged the EC had hired 65 NPP members as temporary employees for the approaching elections in the Gomoa East seat in the Central Region while speaking at a small rally in Sekondi, Western Region, on Tuesday, November 26.
He asserted that an NPP member of parliament and party leadership had suggested these people, who were identified as card-bearing NPP members, to the EC.
According to Mahama, this revelation supports the NDC’s concerns that the government and the EC worked together to rig the election results.
“We all have to be vigilant and keenly observe the polls because we can vote well, but some thieves will rig it. I have seen a video from Gomoa East which contains a recording showing that one NPP MP and his executives submitted 65 party members to an EC official who added them.
“So if such a person is the one at the polling station, do you think he will allow the polls to be fair? That is why we have always been saying that there is a collusion between the EC and the NPP to rig the elections and we have evidence from Gomoa East”, he stated.
