The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader, John Mahama, has been charged by the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, with being accountable for the demise of the Ghana film industry.
On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Chairman Wontumi announced on Kumasi-based Abusua FM that the movie business collapsed because to the power crisis that John Mahama’s administration faced.
“The collapse of the Ghana movie industry was because of John Mahama. The dumsor he brought caused it,” Chairman Wontumi is reported as saying in a flyer posted on social media by Abusua FM.
He went on to criticize the former administration of being the root of the nation’s issues and commended the NPP administration for its “good work.”
He highlighted the NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s pledges of digitization and urged Ghanaians to support him in the next elections.
This is happening in the midst of worries expressed by those involved in the creative arts sector about how well the government is managing the nation overall, including keeping its word and improving the industry.
Numerous stakeholders have leveled accusations against the government, claiming it has neglected the industry and has not kept its word.
During his Wednesday, February 7, 2024, public speech at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) in Accra, Dr. Bawumia revealed his plans to support the creative arts industry in the event that he is elected president. These plans include the introduction of digital and streaming platforms, the provision of tax incentives for film producers, and the implementation of an e-visa policy for foreign visitors.
As the nation prepares for the December 7, 2024, general elections, several pledges have been made.
Vice-President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, New Force Movement leader Nana Kwame Bediako, and Movement for Change leader Alan Kyerematen will compete against NDC flagbearer and former president John Dramani Mahama.
