President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has hailed former President and flagbearer of the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama following his decision to contest the 2020 election results at court.
The NDC led by former president John Dramani Mahama has petitioned the Supreme Court to challenge the 2020 presidential election results having described it as flawed.
However, according to Nana Addo, the move by the NDC and its flagbearer is commendable as he believes the former president chose democracy over violence.
In his State of the Nation Address, the President said, “I recognized that my main opponent in the election, the former President John Dramani Mahama has gone to the Supreme Court to seek intervention and grab release he believes were comprised in the conduct of the election”
He continued that, “It is good for the nation that in the end, he chose the legal path instead of the pockets of violence than the rejection of the results by his party in the period after the election”
“We all have to make a deliberate decision to invest in the rule of law and uphold the integrity of institutions of our states so that no person or group of persons takes the law into their own hands with impunity,” he said.
