The immediate past Municipal Chief Executive for Abuakwa North in Eastern Region Alhaji Umar Bodinga has lamented that the new government paid only eight days as salary for January 2025.
Bodinga described the decision as unfair given that they are entitled to a pilon on notice of their termination.
Speaking on Koforidua based Bryt FM on Friday, the former MCE stated that all 275 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives across the country received 8 days salary for January.
“They [government] only paid us 8 days as January salary. But by our letter of appointment , if your appointment is terminated or revoked you are given three months in lieu. Hunger is painful. Those who were occupying government bungalows have vacated so how can they get a place to stay. There are somethings that when you do it brings shame to the governance system” The MCE voiced his concerns.
President John Mahama on January 8,2025 revoked the appointments of Chief Executives for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
In a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Calistus Mahama the move is in accordance with the powers vested in President Mahama under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).
