The Flagbearer of the largest Opposition Party in Ghana -National Democratic Congress, NDC, John Dramani Mahama was mobbed at a funeral in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital on Saturday.
Mr. Mahama accompanied by the National Chairman and General Secretary of the party -Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and Johnson Asiedu Nketia respectively as well as a former Chief of staff Julius Debrah, Dr. Omane Boamah -a former communications Minister, three former Eastern Regional Ministers -Antwi Bosiako Sekyere, Victor Smith and Mavis Ama Frimpong were cheered and mobbed by mourners mostly supporters of the NDC at the funeral of the late wife of Eastern Regional Chairman Bismark Tawiah Boateng at Jubilee Park in Koforidua.
The DJ could not help but jettison his dirge music selections to play NDC Political Campaign songs which utterly energized the mourners who flooded the open space of the funeral ground to cheer the NDC Flagbearer with “two sure finger symbols”.
Mr. Mahama and the NDC family after making a funeral donation of Ghc17,000 plus other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to the widower -Tawiah Boateng left to Accra.
Meanwhile, the National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, Sammy Awuku, also arrived to empathize with Tawiah Boateng after John Mahama and his entourage had left.
Already, the New Juaben South Parliamentary Candidate of the NPP Michael Okyere Baafi and Eastern Regional Executives of the party led by Kwame Appiah Kodua, Alhaji Omar Bodinga, and David Prah were also at the funeral grounds to commiserate with their political rival.
An attempt by controversial Mr. David Prah the Regional Communication Director of the NPP to subtly deliver a Campaign message while announcing the donation package of the party nearly resulted in little misunderstanding as supporters of the NDC started booing him in a non-violent manner.
NPP Campaign song was played for the NPP delegation to dance before departure from the funeral grounds.
