After apologizing to the Okyenhene, the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has explained why the party hierarchy took the decision.
Some big wigs of the NDC, led by its National Chairman, were in Kyebi last Friday, 6th December 2019 to apologize to Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, following unpalatable comment by the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, Kwame Zu sometime ago.
Okyeman, in reaction to the matter, demanded an apology from Mr. Kwame Zu and the NDC as a party or ban the party from any activity under the auspices of the Okyenhene.
Meanwhile, the decision by the leadership of the NDC to pray for forgiveness from the Overlord of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area has received lots of diverse interpretations from the public.
Speaking after the colorful apology ceremony, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo revealed, the party flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama ordered for the party to take the stand of reuniting with Okyeman, because he believe in the tradition and customs of the land, even though Mr. Zu’s comment was personal and not that of the party.
However, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo was surprised a deputy minister of the ruling government, failed to apologize to Togbe Afede IX after “insulting” chiefs in the Volta Region but was not treated with much importance as that of Okyenhene.
He described the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as indiscipline and that, he would not in any day even think of joining such a party.
The National Chairman, emphasized, the NDC as a party, believes in the Rule of Law, respect traditional authorities and also respect religious leaders because they are all part of our governance system.
“The NDC did not go to perform rituals at the Okyenhene Palace. The Okyeman said that they performed a ritual to evoke that ban. So they wanted to do it in our presence to reverse the ban and evocations, so we carry the message to President Mahama that, they don’t have any problem with us” Mr. Ofosu Ampofo narrated.
Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, therefore, appealed to the youth of the party to believe in the party’s leadership as it is doing it’s possible best yo get victory come 2020.
