For the first time, former President and Flagbearer of National Democratic Congress (NDC) H.E. John Dramani Mahama is expected to address the 39th Anniversary of the 31st December Revolution on Thursday, December 31.
According to a statement from the NDC, the Central Planning Committee of the 31st December Anniversary and the Office of former President Jerry John Rawlings, in partnership with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will host the commemoration of the 39th Anniversary of the 31st December Revolution on Thursday, December 31 at the Osekan Park on the Atta Mills High Street.
The statement said the Anniversary will be organised in honor of the late Founder of NDC, former President of the Republic of Ghana, and leader of the Revolution, the ceremony will commence.
The family of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and her Party are yet to confirm their participation.
It said Wreath-Laying/Parade and Commemoration will be at Osekan Park, Accra on Thursday, 31st December 2020 from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm.
In 2019, the late and former President Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings criticized people for “deliberately spending huge resources sponsoring a distortion of history based on outright lies, half-truths and the rendition by cowards who run away during those heady days.”
The architect of the June 4, 1979, and 1981 revolutions said some may not want to speak openly about the truth, “but there are millions alive who cannot forget the dire circumstances that this country found itself 40 years ago when the atmosphere was so fragile and volatile.”
According to him, “An important history lesson is going to be lost on this nation because a handful of warped minds, full of hate and bitterness are being paid to distort and cover up events in our history with callous stories and lies.
