Former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has said the ability to control illegal mining popularly known as galamsey should be a key indicator to assess the performance of Chief Executives for the Assemblies and Regional Ministers who are in Mining Communities to fight against the menace.
He charged President Nana Akufo-Addo to investigate some “hearsay and mere allegations“ against his appointees and take action without favor and cover up to send a warning to others.
Commenting on National Consultative Dialogue on Small-Scale Mining organized by the Forestry Commission under the auspices of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources which brought together former Minister under Mahama and Akufo-Addo administration.
Nana Akufo-Addo, addressing the forum said “I will, however, not act based on hearsay or mere allegations without more. I will not hesitate to act, though, where the evidence is hard before the Police, and I will do so irrespective of the standing of the person or persons involved. That is the true meaning of equality before the law “, but Alhaji Inusah Fuseini disagrees with the President with such a statement and said hearsay might lead to many areas and activities of persons who are under the leaders.
The former Minister welcomed the government`s National Consultative Dialogue on Small-Scale Mining and said he and other participants who were given the chance to come out with their solutions to fight illegal mining will monitor the Government and access the Minister later on their commitment.
The Consultative Dialogue was held to solicit views, proposals, and suggestions from diverse stakeholders in the small-scale mining industry, to develop appropriate policy interventions for the sector.
