Security Expert Emmanuel Sowatey has advised the public to make room for the new Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, to make mistakes.
Emmanuel Sowatey was responding to the question posed by “Efa Wo Ho” morning show host Abena Opokua Ahwenee on his view regarding the new IGP and his performance so far, referring to his unexpected visit to the police in the Savannah region to inquire about some of their challenges and to motivate and assure them of his support towards their good work.
According to him, he acknowledges the output of the new IGP and he deems it remarkable and applaudable, referring to the fact that he has good human relations.
“This new IG is bringing fantastic philosophies, he is building upon the work of others and is determined to bring a change,“ he said
However, he opined that the expectations Ghanaians have regarding him are too high and any least act of mistake may cause Ghanaians to be disappointed and lose hope in him.
“There are some challenges not only in the police services but in the country as well which are deep-rooted and may require a longer time for them to be uprooted. Ghanaians are expecting too much in just a little time. Let’s note that he’s human, he will make mistakes and fail sometimes, let’s make room for that”
He further encouraged Ghanaians to do their best in helping the police by supplying them with credible information about wrongdoings in their various localities and by so doing, the work of the police in ensuring safety will be enhanced.
“Let’s all help the police. They need information for their work to be effective, let’s not withhold relevant information from them. If we provide them with information, they will also act upon it. It is our civil duty to do so” he opined
