Police has instituted investigation into the matter
Malawi continues to grapple with unsafe abortions, which is a leading contributor to maternal mortality.
The country’s health ministry states that over 35,000 unsafe abortions took place between 2022 and 2023.
Malawi only allows abortion if it is done to save a pregnant woman’s life.
Terminating pregnancies for any other reason is against the law.
