An Eight member delegation from the Malawian Mining and Finance Ministries has called on the Ministry as part of a 5-day Institutional engagement on a peer exchange mission to share experiences, knowledge and learn at first hand about the Ghanaian mining industry.
The Peer exchange, is part of Minerals Commission quest to cross fertilize the experiences and work of other countries to build capacity for enhanced accountability and governance among resource-rich countries.
The meeting commenced with a presentation on the overview of the Ministry’s functions as related to the Ministry’s mandate specifically the mining sub-sector by Mr. Kwame Ahumah.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, Mr. Benjamin Aryee outlined the distinct responsibilities of Minerals Commission and the Ministry which includes the grant of mineral rights.
He also elaborated on Ghana’s position on the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI).
The Malawian Ministry of Mines are in the process of establishing a Mining Authority hence the visit to learn from Ghana’s best practices in mineral right administration.
The meeting was Chaired by the Director, Policy Planning Monitoring and Evaluation (PPME), Mr. Matthew Ababio. Also present were officials from the Ministry and Minerals Commission.
