Malian music star Salif Keita has been appointed a “special advisor” to the head of the country’s military junta.
Under a decree published this week, the Afropop singer-songwriter was named one of five advisors to Colonel Assimi Goita, who ousted elected president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita in 2020.
Keita, 73, has supported the junta, endorsing its narrative of national sovereignty and calling for the departure of UN peacekeeping troops from Mali.
