Scores of passengers are in critical condition after a Toyota Hiace Minibus and Hyundai minibus collided head-on at the Oyoko stretch of the Koforidua to Bunso highway Wednesday evening.
According to some eyewitnesses, the Hyundai minibus with registration number GR 6546-21 onboard with passengers from Koforidua heading to Anyinam made wrongfully overtaken in a curve and in the process, crashed head-on with the speeding Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ER 685-17 bus which was from the opposite direction.
Many passengers in both vehicles were trapped.
It took a joint team of Police and the Ghana National Fire service almost two hours to extricate the victims some of whom were feared dead and in critical conditions.
They were rushed to the St.Joseph Hospital and Eastern regional hospital for treatment.
The Eastern Regional Commander of Police MTTD, Stephen Ahiatafu, confirmed the incident but said police is taken inventories of the victims at the various hospitals.
He however said no death has been recorded so far.
