The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has assured cocoa farmers across the country that concrete measures have been put in place to address the ongoing financial challenges within the cocoa sector and to settle all outstanding arrears owed to farmers.
The Head of Corporate Communications at COCOBOD, Sam Jerome, disclosed that government remains committed to protecting the integrity and welfare of cocoa farmers, stressing that their livelihoods remain a top priority. He emphasized that the government has no intention of undermining cocoa farmers but is rather focused on improving their living conditions and ensuring the sustainability of the sector.
Speaking in an interview with Kwamina Sam Biney on the Bryt Adekyee Musem Morning Show on Koforidua-based Bryt FM, Sam Jerome called on cocoa farmers to remain calm and exercise patience as efforts are underway to resolve the financial bottlenecks affecting the industry.
He assured farmers that government fully recognizes the critical role cocoa production plays in sustaining Ghana’s economy and reaffirmed its firm commitment to honouring all financial obligations to farmers. According to him, settling the arrears will help restore confidence in the cocoa sector and enable farmers to continue their activities without undue hardship.
Sam Jerome further noted that COCOBOD, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, is working tirelessly to implement long-term solutions aimed at strengthening the cocoa sector and preventing similar challenges in the future.
