A 33-year-old mechanic David Ayivi has been arrested for peddling narcotic drugs around military Base in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital.
The suspect was busted on March 21, 2021, by a Police officer stationed at the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters upon a tip-off that some suspects were peddling drugs at the Ogreen area near the military base in Koforidua.
The Police officer on arrival at the scene saw the suspects and his accomplice identified as Ike sniffing a whitish substance on paper at their hideout near the military base.
They both took to their heels leaving behind their backpack bags upon seeing the arresting officer but were pursued which David Ayivi was arrested.
He was sent to where the backpack bags were abandoned.
A search in one of the bags which the suspect admitted ownership revealed 103 wrapped dried substances suspected to be cannabis.
Tramadol, knife, biscuit were also found.
The suspect, in his caution statement, said the contents in the bag belong to the accomplice at large but failed to lead police to his house.
He was charged and put before Koforidua Circuit Court ‘ B’ on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, but his plea was not taken.
Prosecutor said the dried leaves have been sent for forensic laboratory tests.
He, therefore, prayed the court to remand the suspect into Police custody to assist in the investigation.
The father of the accused who is also a mechanic could not provide a legitimate address and business location to convince the presiding Judge Her Honour Mercy Adei Kotei for bail when quizzed.
The accused was therefore remanded into Police custody to reappear in court on April 12, 2021.
