The Ghana Catholic Youth Organization (C.Y.O) Headquarters building at Adoagyiri-Nsawam in the Eastern Region has received a massive facelift but the organization is still facing structural, infrastructural, logistical and financial challenges.
The imposing and historic building serves as Tourists site, Training Center, Meeting Place, National Secretariat, and other events since 1949.
In a statement to celebrate a patron Saint of the Organization, National Chairman of the C.Y.O, Senior Crusader George Nego Fugluu said “The building is now crying for Renovation and furnishing. The painting has just been completed, courtesy your efforts, it’s a 75-bed capacity facility where all the mattresses need to be replaced.”
He added that the C.Y.O had produced many well-trained, committed and generous Catholics since its inception and appealed to beneficiaries and other Philanthropists to come to their aid and urged members of the Organization to pay dues promptly and fully for the implementation of planned programmes.
According to Senior Crusader George Nego Fugluu, Ghana C.Y.O was able as a single Catholic Youth Movement, attracted 16,675 crusaders into the Organization in 2018/19 Calendar year and was optimistic to increase membership to 20,000 by the end of Catholic Youth year in July 2020.
He charged all members and leaders to dedicate and commit themselves through self-discipline, living an exemplary life, and through very attractive programs for the Youth in the Unit, Parish and Diocese.
The C.Y.O is devoted to facilitate and conduct training courses in the field of Youth Service, to seek and administer funds for Youth Service, to co-operate with the Church, the Government and other agencies concerned with Youth Service to foster and co-ordinate activities of Church societies dealing with Youth.
The C.Y.O is an International Organization that exists in all parts of the world in different names. It was founded in Ghana by His Lordship, Right Rev. Bishop Adolf Noser, SVD, DD of the Accra Diocese and Rev. Peter Norek, SVD in 1949 at the time when the majority of the Youth was left to them without guidance. It appointed Mr. Victor Ako-Adonuvo as its first full-time Director in 1951. Later he became the National Chairman in 1960.
