The government’s effort at curbing the raging Meningitis outbreak in the Upper West region saw a major boost with a donation of 10,000 vials of antibiotics from the WHO at the conference room of the MOH in Accra.
In a handing over speech, country representative of the WHO, Dr. Frank Lule, indicated that the medicines would play an essential role in the fight against meningitis and appealed to persons living in the affected areas to seek early treatment, noting that WHO would provide more medicines if the need arose.
The Minister of Health Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, on behalf of the President and people of Ghana, expressed gratitude for the timely gesture and subsequently handed over the items to the Acting DG of the GHS.
Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea acknowledged the medication and gave the assurance of an immediate dispatch to the Upper West region, while lauding the swift technical assistance provided by WHO.
The ceremony was witnessed by senior Officials of the Ministry of Health, Ghanana World Health Organization Ghanana Ghana Health Service, and a section of the media.
