The life of a three-year-old child being carried at the back of a mentally ill woman on the streets of Koforidua is in danger.
The woman is believed to be in her thirties. She speaks English and Ewe fluently.
She has been sleeping on the streets with her three-year-old child in a mosquito-infested environment.
According to residents of Koforidua- Old Estate where the woman is wandering with her child at her back, she came to the area on Friday.
She has been roaming around the Pentecost Church building in an old estate near Pentecost Preparatory School.
An attempt by some social workers of the Department of Social Welfare to rescue the baby proved futile as the woman resisted.
Another resident Moree Oko Kyeremateng said ” It is very worrying, as I speak the child has not eaten any food today, she has been given the child only water since morning, so we are pleading with you and authorities to come to her aid and rescue the child she is carrying at her back. I decided to give the child indomie to eat but looking at her attitude she doesn’t want anybody to get closer to her because she thinks that we will take the child away”.
Theresa Ofosu Appiah said some social workers from the department of social welfare attempted to rescue the baby Monday afternoon but could not.
“We were here and social welfare people came around, but she sacked them and told them that she can take care of her child, the she even owns the house over here just that the husband has taken the house keys and traveled with it”
