Chelsea coach Frank Lampard has received a lot of praises from his former teammate Michael Essien after an impressive showing since assuming office last year.
According to him, he never imagined Lampard would venture into coaching after retirement but says he is satisfied with his performance at the moment.
The duo shared the dressing room for years and achieved everything together with the London based club.
Lampard despite not signing any player last year due to a transfer ban guided the club into a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.
However, his former teammate did not waste much time to commend him for the good work done so far and is hopeful that the club will be able to win further silverware under his stewardship.
“He [Lampard] was one of the leaders [in the dressing room]. I didn’t really see that he would end up becoming a manager. Knowing Frank, he’s very quiet and calm and does his thing.
“I’m not surprised he took on that job. He knows Chelsea very well and it’s very good for him and I wish him all the best.
“Yes [I have been impressed] because Chelsea is not an easy place to go as a manager or player. His first year he was not allowed to make a lot of signings, but he still managed to do well. It’s a big credit to him and hopefully, they will do even better this season.”
The former Black Stars player is currently working with Danish top-flight side FC Nordsjælland as a technical team member.
