Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori Atta has said that the novel disease, Coronavirus affected the Ghanaian economy and has urged Ghanaians to support each other for difficult times ahead due to the negative impact of COVID-19 on country’s economy.
This was said when he was delivering the mid-year budget review today Thursday, July 23, 2020, in parliament.
“COVID-19 pandemic is far more than a crisis and Ghana’s economy hasn’t been spared. We must not and will not be daunted by this crisis… the predicted, long-lasting effects of this pandemic suggest that 2020 and beyond will be difficult. Ghana will, therefore, need a courageous and competent government. We have proved, over time that we are better managers of the economy.
“Let us be in no doubt that Africa is facing its first depression for 25 years, sadly after two decades of stable growth. Despite the impact of COVID-19, the economy has continued its sharp growth from 2017. Driving the growth in information communication technology and real estate” He added.
According to Mr. Ofori Atta, 2019 was a good year with improved rise, growth, and shortage, adding that President Akuffo Addo is to launch a GH100bn development in the coming weeks.
