Ayensuano – Miners operating at a small-scale mining site in Obuoho-Fante, a community in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region, have staged a demonstration following the burning of four excavators by the Rapid Deployment Taskforce of the Forestry Commission on Thursday, February 13.
The miners, clad in red armbands and chanting war songs, expressed their anger over the incident, which they say has rendered over 50 workers jobless and severely impacted their livelihoods.
According to them, the destruction of the excavators has resulted in an estimated loss of 100 million cedis.

Assembly Member for Obuoho, Adu Gyamfi appealed to government to intervene to investigate the incident.
Some of the miners accused the forestry officials of using explosives to destroy the machines.
They denied claims of encroaching on a forestry reserve or mining in a river.
