The National Tripartite Committee has increased Basic Pay on the Single Spine Salary by ten percent (10%) across board from January 2025 to December 2025.
Similarly, the Committee also announced a 10% increase in the National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW), effective March 1, 2025.
This will raise the NDMW from GHC 18.15 to GHC 19.97 per day.
During the meeting,President John Dramani Mahama joined the National Tripartite Committee at the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment.
This was before his first cabinet meeting.
In his brief remarks, the president urged the labour unions to consider the dire state of the economy as they proceed with the wage negotiations.
He promised them that if the economy bounced back, he would ensure higher remuneration for workers in the coming year.
In 2024, Government increased base pay to 23% from January 2024.
The government in 2023 increased the base pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) by 30 per cent across the board.
The 30 per cent is the biggest increment Organised Labour has secured out of negotiations with the government since 2010 when the government increased the base pay by 20 per cent, and by the same margin in 2011.
The 30 per cent increment of the base pay last year also brought an end to the cost of living allowance (COLA) of 15 per cent which the government paid public sector workers between July and December last year.
Before the NPP administration came to power in 2017, the highest increment had been 12 per cent, which was secured in 2017.
