The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon Seth Kwame Acheampong has paid a working visit to ZIPLINE, Ghana’s Medical Drone project at Omenako, a community located in the Suhum Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region to familiarize himself with their operations and to offer them his total support as the representative of the President of Republic in the Region.
Having opened its first center at Omenako in April 2019, Zipline Ghana has grown to add 5 more centers to its operations, namely Mpanya Centre in the Ashanti Region, Vobsi center in the North East Region, Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region, Anum in the Eastern Region and Krachi in the Oti Region.
In a statement after the tour of the facility, the Hon. Eastern Regional Minister Mr. Seth Kwame Acheampong commended the management of the facilities for the success chalked in improving health services delivery in the country especially during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, where the ZIPLINE played a key role in transporting Test Samples and other medications to various health facilities.
Hon Acheampong also commended the government under the able leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Ministry of Health for such a laudable initiative which has improved accessibility of quality health care especially to reach locations in the country that were not easily accessible for medical care.
He was also elated that Zipline employs and trains most of their workers from the communities where they operate thereby creating some job opportunities for the indigenous people.
According to the General Manager of Zipline Ghana, Naa Adorkor Yawson, since its commencement in April 2019, Zipline has supplied over 1.43 million emergency medical products across the country. These included 836,000 medical units, 566,000 vaccine units, and 6,203 blood units delivered to various health facilities across the country.
She disclosed that the company has initiated to add two new distribution centers to add up to their operations, namely Kintampo center in the Bono East Region and Funsi Centre in the Upper West Region, adding that when completed, the company would be able to cover over 80% of the population in the country when all the 8 centers become operational.
According to her, currently, Zipline delivers vaccines and emergency products to 2,005 health facilities in the country with Omenako taking the bulk number of 666 health facilities in the Eastern Region and section of Greater Accra Region.
