The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu and his entourage on Tuesday visited Oyoko Methodist Senior High School (OMESS) in Koforidua in Eastern Region to inspect the extent of damage caused by devastating fire outbreak which razed down Housemaster’s bungalow.
The Minister assured that the affected bungalow will be given urgent attention for immediate rehabilitation.
The inferno broke out around 6:30pm on Monday
It completely destroyed the residence of the house master and family including his wife who delivered few months ago .
The blaze damaged the roof, ceiling, furniture and home appliances and personal belongings of the housemaster and his family.
Fortunately, there were no casualties recorded.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fire started from the ceiling of the building, where preliminary investigation indicate an electrical malfunction might have caused the fire outbreak.
“Our initial assessment points to an electrical fault in the ceiling as the likely source of the fire,” the GNFS said.
The timely intervention of firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to the adjacent boys’ dormitory, which was in close proximity to the burning structure.
The Eastern Regional Director of Education Dr. Ivy Asantewa Owusu commended the Education Minister for the swift intervention hoping the affected area will be fixed.
She said the affected family is being sheltered temporarily at the mission house of the Methodist Bishop.
