Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister-Designate for Interior, has committed to review the regional quota system in order to address concerns about parity in the recruitment process for Ghana’s security personnel.
During his January 24 vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Muntaka emphasized the value of diversity and pledged to guarantee parity in the hiring process.
He voiced worries about situations in which possibilities to benefit a select majority are left out when minorities are marginalized.
Muntaka emphasized the necessity of an open, equitable procedure that takes into account the diversity of the nation.
In order to examine and enhance the hiring procedure for Ghana’s benefit, the nominee promised the Committee that he would work closely with the leaders of the security agencies.
“I’m going to a ministry that has a lot of professionals that are experts in their fields, you can’t doubt the expertise of the Inspector General of Police, neither will you doubt the Director General of Ghana Prisons and the likes.
“And I’m going to be a team member that would be working with them. Together with them we have to review. Over the last 30 years or 40 years, since we started this 4th Republic, how have we done it? Has it served the purpose? If there are lapses, we will look at it and review it in the best interest of the country.
