Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Interior Minister nominee and Member of Parliament for the Asawase seat, has pledged to bring peace back to Bawku, a town in the Upper East area that is notorious for its frequent chieftaincy-related disputes.
He expressed his intentions to collaborate closely with the Chieftaincy and Local Government Ministries to address the root causes of the violence and guarantee enduring peace in the region during his vetting before Parliament on Friday, January 24.
“I will be very interested in assisting the president to achieve the vision he promised the people of Bawku, that he will do everything humanly possible to ensure peace returns. Not only in Bawku but in all other areas across the country facing similar challenges,” he stated.
In order to address the problem, Mr. Muntaka emphasized the significance of cooperation between governmental organizations, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders. In order to avoid future conflicts, he disclosed plans to collaborate with the National and Regional Houses of Chiefs in formalizing the succession lines.
“If the line of succession is clearly documented, it will take away doubt and make it easier to address disagreements,” he said.
