To establish a robust and comprehensive National Sports Policy that would stand the test of time, the Ministry of Youth and Sports continued with its stakeholder consultations to solicit for inputs to enrich the draft National Sports Policy document.
This time, the Ministry met with the Board of the National Sports Authority, Ministerial Advisory Board, the Local Organising Committee for the 13th African Games and members of some federations at the Mensvic Grand Hotel on Wednesday 22nd February, 2023.
In a keynote address delivered before the engagement, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Evans Opoku Bobie noted that the relevance of organising the stakeholder engagements cannot be overlooked since it was important to have the views of all Sports related bodies to ensure the positions of every stakeholder is captured in the document.
According to the Deputy Minister, Ghana abounds in sporting talent and to detail the many achievements of the current and past sportsmen and women would be a tall order.
He further noted that the time is therefore upon duty bearers to properly situate Sports and sports business in the development framework of the nation.
He expressed his belief that the development and implementation of the policy would secure the infrastructural, human resources development, financial and technological as well as knowledge systems required to advance the development of sports in the country.
In his opening remarks, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adam affirmed the confidence he has in the stakeholders to constructively critique the document and make the necessary recommendations to enrich the document.
He said “the purpose of our gathering here is to seek inputs, comments, suggestions and recommendations from you, our important stakeholders in the sports sector, towards the finalisation of the draft National Sports Policy ” he stated.
He added that it was a step in the right direction for the policy to be brought into fruition as Ghana has long been in dire need of policy direction for the development of sports.
