Members of the Minority in Parliament staged a dramatic walkout on Thursday, July 24, just moments before Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson was set to deliver the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.
The protest, according to the Minority Caucus, was in response to the recent Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, which they claim was marred by voter intimidation, violence, and the misuse of state security forces. They described these developments as a serious threat to Ghana’s democratic foundations.
Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh stated that the group could not, in good conscience, participate in the budget proceedings while remaining silent on what they described as “a grave assault on democratic processes.”
