Misinformation regarding irresponsible mining activities is hindering the strategic measures to combat the menace, says security consultant Richard Kumadoe on the Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem Morning Show.
Mr. Kumadoe emphasized that galamsey has been an alternative source of income for most Gvhanaians.
He argued that illegal mining activities are not easy to fight as there is no alternative source of money for perpetrators aside from the galamsey.
“People are not saying mining should stop but should be done in a legal way because the illegal mining is killing Ghanaians in the sense that all our water bodies are contaminated by its activities,’’ Mr. Kumadoe told the host Kwamina Sam Biney.
“Galamsey can be stopped if only an alternative job is created in those areas. We are not saying mining must stop absolutely but must be done in a legal way to help protect the life of Ghanaians,’’ he said.
illegal mining has been a major problem for Ghana as our water bodies, lands and forest reserves are being destroyed.
