Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo says Nigeria missing the 2022 World Cup is one of his lowest moments in football.
The Super Eagles lost to their West African rivals Ghana in the third round of the African qualifiers, and as a result, were unable to qualify for this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Following a 0-0 draw in the first leg match in Kumasi, the Super Eagles were unable to capitalize on home-field advantage in Abuja, where they settled for a 1-1 draw, allowing the Black Stars to advance on the basis of away goals.
“I will say probably one of my lowest moments in football, not just because we are not going to the World Cup but in the manner, it happened against Ghana,” he told the Southampton website.
“Of course, the rivalry, so there is just a lot to take in”
Meanwhile, Ghana has been housed in Group H against Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
The 2022 World Cup has been scheduled between November and December, where 32 countries will battle it out for the covetous trophy in Qatar.
