The grassroots supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in New Juaben South have called on the party’s regional leadership to provide clarification regarding the disqualification of Dr. Mathew Otu Offei during the vetting process for the Mayor position.
Dr. Otu Offei, who has twice contested as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, was reportedly disqualified without a clear explanation. The party’s grassroots members are demanding transparency from the leadership on why he was excluded from the process.
Additionally, the group is questioning why only one candidate was shortlisted for the MCE position, contrary to the directive of President John Mahama, who had stated that three names should be presented for consideration.
The supporters believe that limiting the shortlist to a single candidate undermines fairness and due process.
Furthermore, concerns of a conflict of interest have been raised, as the sole shortlisted candidate was allegedly part of the vetting committee responsible for the selection process. The grassroots members argue that this situation compromises the integrity of the process and have urged the NDC’s national leadership to intervene and address the issue.
They are calling for transparency and fairness in the selection process, emphasizing that any appearance of bias could affect the party’s unity and credibility in the region. They have, therefore, urged the party’s top hierarchy to take swift action to ensure that justice is served and that all deserving candidates are given a fair chance.
The NDC grassroots in New Juaben South remain committed to the party’s principles but insist that due process must be followed to maintain trust among its members.
