Today, Monday, 26th April 2021 is exactly four years that President Nana Akufo-Addo released the list of all 212 Municipal and District Chief Executives.
A totol of 36 out of the 212 persons named by President Akufo-Addo to occupy the vacant positions of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country were women.
This represents only 17% of the total list announced by the Minister for Local Government, Hajia Alima Mahama in Accra.
Some of these appointees were sacked from office while some also died, including Takoradi Mayor, Mr.Anthony K.K. SAM who was later replaced by Abdul Mumin Issah.
The Amansie South District Chief Executive, William Asante Bediako who recently defended ‘galamsey’ operations in his area has been dismissed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and also removed from office is the Akuapim North Municipal Chief Executive.
In May 2020, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has terminated the appointment of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, Gilbert Ken Asmah.
In January 2021, President Nana Akufo-Addo instructed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to continue to stay in office until further notice.
In a letter signed by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the President also warned the Chief Executives to desist from taking policy decisions.
Senior adviser to the President, Nana Yaw Osafo Marfo has revealed plans to deal with persons who contributed to the party’s loss of parliamentary seats during the December 7 polls.
This comes after 33 incumbent NPP legislators lost their seats in the just-ended elections to rivals in the opposition NDC.
