More than 40 people have been killed in an attack on a camp for internally displaced persons in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to local officials and activists.
Cooperative for the Development of the Congo, one of many militias operating in conflict-ridden eastern Congo, is being held responsible for the killings at the “LALA” camp.
Local civil society representative, Desire Malodra, told AFP that the militia “began to fire shots, many people were burned to death in their homes, others were killed by machete.”
