The MTN Foundation has donated thousands of face masks to two (2) hospitals in Eastern Region, Somanya and Koforidua, respectively.
The donation which is being done across the country seeks to help in the promotion of wearing facemasks as part of the safety protocol measures to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic in the world.
The area sales manager for Eastern, Volta and Oti Regions, Steven Asare, in a statement said before the presentation said apart from promoting the wearing of facemasks, it is also to support health workers across the country.
“During this pandemic, we have acknowledged that protecting our health workers is paramount. Health workers use a lot of facemasks in and out of the hospitals and we are delighted to be able to provide additional face masks for them,” he said.
Mr. Asare noted that the donation forms part of the foundation’s face mask campaign dubbed “Wear It for Me and Be Smart” emphasized on the need for people to cultivate the habit of regularly wearing the masks.
He said, following the outbreak of the virus, the MTN foundation has been supportive with a number of interventions to help reduce the spread of the disease.
MTN Foundation, according to Mr. Asare donated GHS 5million worth of PPEs to the National Covid-19 Trust fund as well as a donation of essential equipment to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research for rapid testing and data processing.
According to him, the MTN Ghana Foundation has been helpful in the support of national development through investments in different areas of the economy, education, health etc.
“Over USD 15,207,874.19 has been invested in about 150 projects across the country. These projects are estimated to have impacted over 4 million people,” he said.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Atua Government Hospital in Somanya, the medical superintendent, thanked the MTN team for the timely donation, adding it would go a long way in helping the hospital in the fight against the pandemic.
The MTN Foundation donated 2700 pieces of KN95 facemasks to Atua Government Hospital, 3000 pieces of KN95 facemasks to the Eastern Regional Hospital and 88,000 across the country.
