The MTN Ghana Foundation has officially launched the 2026 edition of its flagship “Save a Life” Blood Donation Exercise, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system through sustained nationwide blood donation efforts. The initiative continues to play a vital role in supporting hospitals across the country by helping to maintain adequate blood supplies for patients in critical need.
The annual initiative, organised in collaboration with hospitals under the Ghana Health Service, continues to provide critical, life-saving support to patients in urgent need of blood. Over the years, the exercise has become one of the Foundation’s most impactful health interventions, significantly strengthening the country’s blood reserves.

Strengthening Ghana’s Healthcare Readiness
Addressing the media during the blood donation exercise at Manya Krobo Senior High School in the Eastern Region on Friday, February 13, 2026, Mr. Ransford Gyan, Area Sales Manager for MTN Ghana in the Eastern, Volta and Oti Regions, highlighted the critical importance of maintaining a steady and reliable national blood supply.

He noted that adequate blood reserves enhance healthcare readiness, improve emergency response capacity during disasters, and ensure hospitals can deliver timely and effective care without unnecessary delays.
Mr. Gyan described this year’s exercise as particularly significant, as it precedes MTN Ghana’s 30th Anniversary celebration, marking three decades of connecting families, businesses and communities across the country.
“MTN has been more than a telecommunications provider; we have been a committed partner in Ghana’s development. Today, we reaffirm that commitment by supporting a critical need within the health sector and helping to shore up blood reserves across the country,” he said.
He further encouraged the public to participate by donating at designated centres, including CalBank, MTN Head Office, the MoMo Office at the Standard Chartered building, and other selected locations nationwide.
“The Save a Life initiative is more than a single event; it reflects our enduring dedication to the health and prosperity of Ghanaians. Donating just one unit of blood can help save lives,” he added.
Call for Increased Public Participation
Ms. Philomina Quayson, Eastern Regional Blood Bank Donor Organiser at the Eastern Regional Hospital, emphasized the urgent need for voluntary blood donations to support patients in critical conditions.

She called on individuals, churches and institutions to partner with the Ghana Health Service to increase blood donations across the country. According to her, regular blood donation contributes to overall health and plays a vital role in sustaining the national blood bank.
A Legacy of Lifesaving Impact
For 15 years, the MTN Ghana Foundation has successfully organised annual blood donation drives, mobilising employees, partners and customers to support the cause. The Foundation acknowledges that some individuals may feel hesitant about donating blood, but continues to encourage participation, highlighting the life-saving impact of every single unit donated.

Since 2011, the Foundation has collected 26,620 units of blood, which have been distributed to major health facilities including:
Eastern Regional Hospital
Effia Nkwanta Government Hospital
Cape Coast Teaching Hospital
Bogoso Government Hospital
Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital
Korle Bu Teaching Hospital
Ridge Hospital
37 Military Hospital
Regional blood banks across the country

Each year, the initiative has expanded its reach and impact. For the 2026 edition, the Foundation has set an ambitious target of collecting 7,000 units of blood.
The Foundation expressed appreciation to its employee volunteers, media partners and the general public for their continued support, expressing confidence that this year’s exercise will be as successful as previous editions.
The Urgent Need for Blood in Ghana
Globally, voluntary unpaid blood donation remains the safest and most reliable way to maintain adequate blood supplies. However, Ghana continues to face challenges in meeting its national blood demand. The MTN Ghana Foundation remains determined to help bridge this gap through sustained partnerships and public engagement.
Strengthening Partnerships for Greater Impact
The Foundation also welcomed CalBank as a key partner for this year’s exercise, working alongside the National Blood Service to expand the reach and effectiveness of the campaign.

A Call to Action
The MTN Ghana Foundation is urging all Ghanaians — employees, partners and members of the public — to participate in this year’s Save a Life Blood Donation Exercise. Whether donating for the first time or as a regular donor, each contribution represents a powerful act of compassion and a chance to save lives.
