MTN Ghana Mobile Money Limited (MoMo) has officially launched this year’s MoMo Month in Koforidua in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region to highlight the importance of partnerships to accelerate digital payments.
This year’s celebration will focus on the opportunities MoMo presents and how stakeholders can leverage the digital payments sector to support the rebuilding of a robust and resilient economy. The month-long campaign is being celebrated under the theme, “Accelerating Growth in Digital Payments – The Role of Partnerships”.
The Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) launched the 2022 Mobile Money (MoMo) month after two years of virtual events due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The MTN MoMo month introduced in August 2009, is held annually to create awareness of the digital payment platform, drive financial inclusion and reward thousands of customers, agents, and merchants.
The Eastern Regional launch of the MoMo month was held in Koforidua on the theme: “Accelerating growth in digital payment – The role of partnerships.”
Mr. Isaac Obeng, Senior Manager for Planning and Analytics at MTN Ghana, said with digitalization and innovation at the forefront and customers opting for fast and convenient ways to make payments and transactions, digital payment has come to stay.
And for us to foster gains, build economies of scale in the sector and promote sustainable economic growth, we need to leverage the power of collaboration and partnership, he said.
“We cannot grow the digital payment platform without collaborating with like-minded organizations such as Banks, Fintech, and Insurance companies, he emphasized.
He said the resilience of the mobile money industry was being tested with the introduction of E-Levy as the telecommunications Network sees a change in customer behavior.
“To continue to provide value to our customers, Mobile Money Limited capped Mobile Money service fee at 0.75 percent for transactions on the platform with a 7.50p for transfers from 1,000 cedis and above,” he noted.
He reminded customers to keep the three golden rules in the fight against fraud; Do not share your Personal Identification Number (PIN), Do not complete a transaction you have not initiated, and Do not engage in conversation about your wallet.
Mr. Faisal Ali, Mobile Money Implementation Manager at MTN for Eastern, Volta, and Oti Regions lauded the partner Banks, Fintech partners, Regulators, Merchants, and Agents for their tremendous contribution to the upkeep of the Mobile Money services.
