The Federation of Muslim Councils (FMC) has expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for announcing public holidays on March 31 and April 1, 2025, in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The FMC’s general secretary, Al-Hajj Muhammad Amir Kpakpo Addo, signed a press release that was sent to the Ghana News Agency expressing gratitude.
The Council recognized that the President had fulfilled his pledge to the Muslim community during the campaign.
They claimed that the ruling would assist in resolving the difficulties that certain Muslims encounter in completely celebrating the Eid because of the 29- or 30-day lunar calendar.
“We are grateful to President Mahama for recognizing the significance of Eid-ul-Fitr and declaring an additional public holiday to enable Muslims to celebrate this joyous occasion,” the statement read.
Additionally, the FMC stated that the prolonged holiday would allow Muslims to rejoice with their loved ones and promote togetherness, inclusivity, and religious tolerance in Ghana.
The group praised the president’s leadership in fostering social cohesion and national unity.
