When he told me that his father had introduced him to smoking marijuana, I was taken aback. This piqued my interest in hearing his startling disclosure.
Nana Kwame as he wants to be called is a nineteen (19) year old student who resides in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua.
The comparatively youthful and attractive man feels that consuming marijuana (Weed) has benefited him during his schooling and has been more of a boon than a bane.
Nana Kwame in an interview with mybrytfmonline averred that, he is a victim of a broken home. And this made him spent much of his life with his father than his mother.
“It all started when I closed from school one afternoon. When I got home, my dad was not around so I waited. I waited for him for hours but he did not show up so I decided to look for him to take the keys to the door. In my search for him, I was walking in a slummy area when I heard his voice from an uncompleted building. This pushed me to find out if it was him or not. When I entered the building, I saw a group of people which consisted of a lot of male and some few females. I went straight to my dad for the keys”. He recounted.
Since the material smelled strange to his nose, he was curious to find out what they were smoking. When his father returned home in the evening, Nana Kwame requested.
At that moment, his father told him they were smoking marijuana. His father went one step further and gave him a lengthy talk about the advantages of smoking weed.
“He told me very good things about the substance. I remember he said when I take it, I will be very intelligent and I will always top my class if I take it. That was the point where I became very interested. Because it was my dream to be the first in my class but all my effort to achieve that goal, that proved futile. My dad did not care about my education even though he made sure he pays my fees on time”. He said.
One sunny Saturday afternoon when his dad was not around, Nana Kwame went to the uncompleted building and used his fathers’ name to get the substance as a way to prevent any one asking questions. When he came home, he tried smoking but did not like it but began to enjoy it after some minutes.
“Immediately after smoking, I tried going through my notes and I realized everything was sticking very fast. This made me read through notes of different subjects. Which after I slept for hours. When my dad came back, I did not tell him anything. I continued smoking secretly. When my examination results came I did very well by placing first in my class. This amazed the teachers because they saw me below average when it comes to academics.
They began to like me because they saw a new me and always made sure am sometimes treated in a special way. This surprised my father which made him ask me why everyone seems to like me, it was then I told my father about my secret. He did not utter a word but just encouraged me to learn harder and that, I should make sure I do not get addicted to smoking weed”. He stated.
Touching on the health implications of weed smoking, he indicated that, he has been smoking for some years now and does it every day. Since he started smoking he has never been sick throughout this years but believes smoking weed has no health hazard as health practioners claim.
Despite this, he believes that smoking marijuana drives out all of his demons, broadens his perspective, and helps him envision the future.
Seeing nothing wrong with smoking marijuana, Nana Kwame revealed that he always thanks his father for introducing him to the habit, which he believes to be the nicest thing that has ever happened to him.
